The style practised at the Barking/Dagenham Dojos blends Shotokan, Wado-Ryu & Kyokoshinkai. Scientific knowledge and modern training methods have been incorporated into their system to continue their students’ development as Martial Artists. They are a multi style Karate association but maintain very high standards throughout their group. Adults, children and beginners are always welcome. The KDI is the result of the natural evolution of Karate and has grown very fast due to its popularity.
Karate-Do represents the evolution of Karate from its Okinawan roots as Karate-Jutsu to what is sometimes referred to as Japanese Karate. KDI encourages all its members to develop their potential under the best teachers at club, local, national and international level. KDI sponsors and subsidises courses and participation in competition as an incentive to its members and to encourage them strive for the highest standards. KDI promotes a comprehensive safety and child protection policy. KDI nurtures all aspects of Karate for all ages and both sexes. It was formed by Terry Wingrove 8th Dan, Carl Lindley 5th Dan and Tony Gray 4th Dan, after increasing interest from many different Karate groups throughout the country who were interested in Karate-do and wished to develop their potential in both traditional form and the competition arena.
Carl was an appointed delegate on the interim Board of the English Karate Federation (National Governing Body of Karate) 2007/08 where he served as President.
