Parents - First Aid Qualifications

Every organisation in the UK has responsibilities for first aid according to the Health and Safety (first aid) Regulations 1981.

Basic First Aid for Appointed Person

Pre-requisites:
None, but must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the Course Outline.

Who is it for?
Those wishing to learn basic first aid
Those acting as the appointed person in the workplace
Those supporting a qualified first aider
Those employed in a low risk working environment with less than 50 people

Course content includes:

    • Personal safety, assessing the incident
    • Priorities: DRAB check and sending for help
    • Unconscious casualty
    • Resuscitation: adults
    • Choking
    • Dealing with blood loss and shock
    • Burns and scalds
    • Fractures
    • Heart attack
    • Diabetes
    • Strokes
    • Seizures
    • Reporting and recording of incidents as required by HSE (Health & Safety Executive)
    • Contents of HSE approved first aid kit

Qualification
Appointed person certificate valid for three years
Note – this course does not qualify the employee to be an HSE approved first aider

First Aid At Work - 4 Day

Pre-requisites:
Candidates must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the Course Outline. Candidates must be aware that they must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.
4 day – HSE (Health & Safety Executive) approved

Who is it for?
Employees who require a first aid at work certificate to comply with HSE requirements

Course content includes:

    • Priorities of first aid
    • Managing an incident
    • Roles/ responsibilities of employers & employees for first aid at work
    • Care of the unconscious casualty
    • Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
    • Disorders of the airway
    • Dealing with bleeding and shock
    • Causes of unconsciousness
    • Burns and scalds
    • Injuries to bones, muscles & joints
      Poisoning
    • Recognition and management of major illnesses
    • Recognition of minor illnesses and appropriate action
    • Eye injuries
    • Miscellaneous injuries
    • Record keeping and accident reporting
    • Infection control
    • Communication and delegation in an emergency
    • Manage the transportation of a casualty

Qualification
Recognised first aider in the workplace
First aid at work certificate valid for three years

First Aid At Work Refresher

Pre-requisites:
Candidates must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the Course Outline. Candidates must hold and produce to the Customer Service Centre a First Aid at Work Certificate or First Aid at Work Refresher Certificate, which is valid for the duration of the training, prior to the course booking being confirmed. This can be renewed up to 3 months early with the unexpired portion being added to the new certificate. Candidates must be aware that they must attend all sessions for the full duration.
2 day – HSE approved

Who is it for?
Employees who need to renew a valid first aid at work certificate

Course content includes:

    • Priorities of first aid
    • Managing an incident
    • Roles/responsibilities of employers and employees for first aid at work
    • Care of the unconscious casualty
    • Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
    • Disorders of the airway
    • Dealing with bleeding and shock
    • Causes of unconsciousness
    • Burns and scalds
    • Injuries to bones, ligaments & joints
    • Poisoning
    • Recognition and management of major illnesses
    • Recognition of minor illnesses and appropriate action
    • Eye injuries

Emergency First Aid for Sports

Pre-requisites:
None, but must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the Course Outline.

Who is it for?
Those who are involved in sporting activities and may need to administer basic first aid.

Course content includes:

    • Personal safety, action at an incident
    • Priorities: DRAB check and sending for help
    • Unconscious casualty: adults & children
    • Resuscitation: adults & children
    • Choking: adults & children
    • Dealing with blood loss and shock
    • Burns and scalds
    • Fractures
    • Minor bleeding
    • Bleeding from special areas: face, mouth, tongue, loss of teeth, ripped nails
    • Spinal injuries
    • Asthma
    • Winding
    • Drowning
    • Chest injuries
    • Management of sprains, strains and dislocations
    • Management of damage to achilles tendon
    • Cramp
    • Friction burns and sunburn
    • Angina and heart attack
    • Diabetes
    • Head injuries
    • Contents of first aid kit
    • Reporting and recording of incidents

Qualification
Emergency aid for sports certificate valid for three years
