Students - Bruce Miller Seminars

These seminars will provide PRACTICAL HANDS-ON ADVICE FOR DEALING WITH MINOR ACHES AND PAINS of the sort regularly encountered in martial arts and other training.

Bruce Miller worked for many years in the medical service of the US army, using acupunture on a regular basis. Medical acupuncture as used by Bruce takes advantage of our current best scientific understanding of how the body works. Further, therapy is evidence-based, i.e. based on scientific studies of the effectiveness of particular techniques for particular ailments. Bruce does not use needles but a hand held device (CENS), standard in medical acupuncture, that delivers small electric pulses over appropriate locations.

This device can be bought by anyone from Amazon for example. www.amazon.com

For dealing with minor sports ailments, Bruce also practices a type of manual musculo-skeletal manipulation called "anmo yao" or "tui na", chinese therapeutic massage. He was taught a Vietnamese version which he refined in his medical training. Gentle manipulation can quickly resolve a number of aches and pains that if left unattended may produce chronic problems.
This series of seminars provide a rare chance to learn both acupuncture and anmo techniques. Each seminar will emphasize the techniques of one approach and touch on the techniques of the other, as detailed below.

DISCLAIMER:
Bruce does not teach these techniques in the treatment of diseases except to medical doctors and other medical personnel: you must have relevant medical training to make a correct diagnosis and appreciate correct treatment. The seminars for the 2008 May/June tour are available to everyone and so will only deal with minor aches and pains. Nothing shown will form a substitute for seeing a qualified doctor. Nonetheless, you will be shown techniques for mild to moderate pain that everyone can safely practice on themselves and others.

Each seminar will cost £20.

All welcome, both non-martial artists and martial artists.

Most people have simple pain (from strains/ sprains / general muscle and tendon aches) that can benefit from the use of electronic acupuncture. Bruce will show how the CENS machine can be used for this purpose. The CENS unit does not use needles and cannot cause damage if used as instructed. People can use the knowledge acquired at the seminar to treat mild to moderate pain, assuming they have a device.
